I am Opposed to genetically engineered foods! I personally know 300 people who are Opposed to genetically engineered foods! In California, 5 counties voted to ban growing genetically engineered foods!
The Sierra Club, representing 750,000 members is Opposed to genetically engineered foods! Greenpeace is Opposed to genetically engineered foods! Millions of Americans are Opposed to genetically engineered foods! Europe is Opposed to genetically engineered foods! Japan is Opposed to genetically engineered foods! Other countries are Opposed to genetically engineered foods!
Please do not use genetically engineered foods! Why FORCE on people something they don't want?
One website calls Monsanto the most hated company on Earth!
Another website calls genetically engineered foods the largest food experiment in the history of the World!
Genetically engineered foods are dangerous tampering with nature! We MUST STOP genetically engineered foods!
Sincerely, Arthur Tesla

I totally agree --GMOs are not the way to go in this country. We need to keep the integrity of our crops free of GMO. In addition, the small farmers will be greatly impacted by the introduction of GMO alfalfa, as it will contaminate their crops and put them out of the alfalfa growing business. Finally, the organic dairy and meat industry will be negatively affected because alfalfa is staple diet for cows -- "organic" does not include any type of GMO crops to be used at any point in the "production" line.

I agree wholeheartedly. I am very distressed about this issue of contamination. How can we convince our government to stop allowing chemical companies to rob us of our choice to eat whole, real food that doesn't have marketing and money genetically engineered into it.
Wake up. Stop systematically destroying biodiversity - the basis of a thriving, healthy organism.

GMOs seem to be the hot-button issue on this IdeaSpace. There have been numerous complaints about GMOs in the past 4 or 5 months, at least, with little to no response by the USDA. At the least, ALL GMO products should be labeled. Of course, GMO product is already labeled because the PLU starts with the number 8, but what about any other types of food made with GMO ingredients? These should be labeled too. I believe that Mother Nature's natural food should not be destroyed by modifying its genes. Keep food in its best, natural, state!

NO genetically engineered foods!! APHIS, why is voting disabled?

It has recently come to my attention through an interview with MIchael Pollan that the USDA has decided to allow for certain GMO's to be sold as food without identification to the consumer. I am more than dismayed to hear this. We are all entitled to know what we are eating.

I too am opposed to GMO's particularly because of the contamination issue and the fact even more pesticides need to be used on these crops.

Just some information for inquiring minds that want to know.

People think that GMO's and chemical resistant crops won't harm us...where do you think that the chemicals end up...can you say ground water ???

President Obama has appointed former Monsanto VP and lobbyist Michael Taylor to become senior advisor to the FDA's commissioner. This unthinkable linkage between food safety and corporate interests that have little regard for the public health must be stopped. This example of a "fox watching the henhouse" is inexcusable. President Obama must reverse this unimaginably dangerous policy and isolate the FDA from corporate influence. The only way that Washington will get the message of how we feel is thru forums like this...everyone in America has a voice, please take the time and share your thoughts....

This is crazy, we wouldn't have wall street watched by an investment banker !!!

Dear Government, and USDA,

Please, science is a good thing, discovery is good, but I don't like tampering. Nature has much more experience at making our food than humans do. Looking back in the short time we've been here, I think we've made more mistakes than improvements. And I really don't like the phrase ---)"...we couldn't have foreseen this development".(--- The thing is, it's a true statement. We don't foresee the developments that happen outside the laboratory, the outside world does not follow protocol and keep strict standards. Nature is messy and elegant.
I don't pretend to be an expert, but I shouldn't have to be... Will I have to be? Will I have to become an expert in genetics as it pertaines to our food supply just to make sure I'm eating food that I approve of?
I think you should take a really good look at what the "genetics for profit" companies are promising, and what they can't promis. I'm sure they didn't foresee super weeds. If weeds can incorporate the herbesides into their DNA it stands to reason, that over time, we will too, but at what cost.
Honey bees, may bring the alterd gene to their hive, alter future generations of bees, alter the honey supply. I don't know about you, but I love honey, and don't relish the idea that I may have to do without, not to mention the work they do for us. Speaking of which I think that our meddling in the nature of things has already jepordised the honey bees contrabution to our food supply. We can't do all the polinating ourselves ...well it would put people to work. But, I don't like it
